The Atherosclerosis* Process

*the progressive narrowing and hardening of the arteries over time

As we age, cholesterol, calcium, and other minerals accumulate on the inside lining of our blood vessels.

Over time, they become clogged. This process is referred to variously as hardening of the arteries, ather-

osclerosis (fat deposits), arteriosclerosis (calcium deposits), and arterial plaque build-up. To ignore this

process can be exceedingly dangerous and may result in rampant cardiovascular disease.

heart3

Examples of such diseases are high blood pressure, angina (chest pain from poor blood circulation to the

heart), heart attack, peripheral vascular disease (poor circulation to the legs and feet), and stroke. Most

of these conditions are physically debilitating and depressing to patients.

 heart5

When plaque builds up in blood vessels, blood flow (carrying oxygen and nutrients) is restricted. It's like

water flowing through a pipe clogged with mineral deposits; if the deposits are thick enough to create a

complete blockage, the water will stop.

It's no different with your blood vessels. If there is excessive plaque buildup and the vessels become partially

or completely blocked, not enough blood can reach the body's tissues, which become starved for the

oxygen and nutrients they need.

Consequently, they will not function optimally and may even die. An example is peripheral vascular disease

in a diabetic, where there is insufficient blood flow to the lower legs and/or the feet.

Depending on the degree of compromise, the patient may experience pain upon walking, even short

distances, or cramping in the legs or feet.

Left unattended, gangrene of the feet may ensue, followed by amputation (if one seeks conventional

treatment).

Another example is coronary (heart) vessels that become so clogged that there is insufficient blood flow to

the heart muscle itself.

Symptoms might be tightness in the chest, chest pain, or discomfort in the jaw or left arm. If the blood supply

is restricted too long, a myocardial infarction, or heart attack, can occur.

In this case, actual muscle tissue of the heart dies. If too much of it dies, the heart will no longer be able to pump

blood to sustain life, and death will result.

Plaque builds up throughout the body. It is important to recognize that hardening of the arteries is not a

localized or segmental disease. It does not affect only one part of the body at a time. If your coronary arteries are

clogged with plaque, it's a sure bet that the arteries in your brain (the site of strokes), kidneys, lungs, sex organs,

and other vital organs are in a similar state.

Ischemic Stroke

Ischemic strokes occur as a result of an obstruction within a blood vessel supplying blood to the brain (about 80%

of all stroke are of the ischemic type). Hemorrhagic strokes occur as a result of vessel rupture, causing blood to

leak into the brain. But there is something that can be done to prevent or reduce plaque build-up.

The Solution

"Three Americans won the Nobel Prize in medicine in 1998 for discovering that the body uses nitric oxide

gas to make blood vessels relax, widen, soften, and function properly-- finding that could pay off in

treatments for cardiovascular disease."    -Associated Press

The answer was in nature all along; it just took science to discover it. Over 69,000 medically published

clinical tests dating back over 30 years have proven that L-arginine converts to nitric oxide in our blood

vessels.

arginine

Increased nitric oxide will help:

*Lower blood pressure - Lancet 1990

*Lower cholesterol - J Nutr 1996

*Improve diabetes - Diabetes Care 2001

*Improve sexual function - BJU Int 1999

*Reduce blood clots & strokes - Circulation 2001

*Improve heart failure - J Am Coll Cardiol 2000

*Improve wound healing - Surgery 1993

*Improve kidney function - Kidney Intl 1999

*Improve memory - J Physiol Pharmacol 1999

*Increase muscle growth & performance

Nature's answer: L-arginine, an amino acid that helps your body create more nitric oxide. Trouble is that

foods which are richest in L-arginine (red meat, shell fish and nuts) are also rich in fat and cholesterol.

cholesterol

Now science has found a safe way to deliver L-arginine:

The production of nitric oxide by L-arginine is based on 1998 Nobel Prize-winning research.

The benefits of L-arginine are backed up by over 30 years of clinical testing.

L-arginine is all-natural, non-herbal, and completely safe.

L-arginine, when combined with the power of acai, noni, goji, and mangosteen, gives even greater benefits.

endothelium

When our bodies were younger, they produced nitric oxide in the blood vessels. The nitric oxide affected the

endothelium (the lining of the blood vessels) to make them more elastic and smooth. We get older and take

prescription drugs; this natural healing process begins to decrease. This leads to such things as hardening of the

arteries, and the endothelium becomes rough and cracked.

The hardening of the arteries reduces the artery's ability to help the heart pump blood, reducing blood circulation.

HERE ARE THE BENEFITS OF L-ARGININE:

Now your arteries have greater elasticity, your blood can flow freely to all of your organs. If the blood vessels

aren't blocked with plaque, the blood flows (carrying oxygen and nutrients) to the body's tissue. You don't have

to worry about plaque breaking off and causing a heart attack or stroke.

Understanding Vitamin D3

The high rate of natural production of vitamin D3 cholecalciferol in the skin is the single most important fact

every person should know about vitamin D, because it has such profound implications for the natural

human condition.

Vitamin D3 is a steroid hormone precursor (predescessor) that has recently been found to play a role in a

wide variety of diseases. Current research indicates vitamin D deficiency plays a role in seventeen varieties

of cancer, as well as heart disease, stroke, hypertension, autoimmune diseases, diabetes, depression, chronic

pain, osteoarthritis, osteoporosis (decrease in bone mass and density), muscle weakness, muscle wasting,

periodontal (gum disease), and birth defects.

This does not mean that vitamin D deficiency is the only cause of these diseases, or that you will not get them

if you take vitamin D. Scientists found that the list is so long because vitamin D actually regulates cells, systems,

and organs throughout the body.

The explanation: "It works by turning your genes on and off - a very basic function. So that's a very important

fact about vitamin D that distinguishes it from any other vitamin. It's a steroid hormone; it's in a class by itself."

What this does mean is that vitamin D, and the many ways in which it affects a person's health, can no longer

be overlooked by the health care industry or by individuals striving to achieve and maintain a greater state

of health.

Vitamin D3, also known as the "sunshine vitamin," can be manufactured in the skin when the body is exposed to

sunlight. However, as we age, or if you are African American, the absorption of vitamin D3 can be decreased.

Vitamin D3 is the active form of vitamin D. Vitamin D2 is a cheaper synthetic version that is ineffective.

Vitamin D is necessary for healthy bones, muscles, and cells. It also helps the body absorb and use phosphorous

and calcium.

Studies have linked vitamin D3 to blood pressure. These studies reveal that when the level of vitamin D3 drops

too far, the blood pressure rises as well as bad cholesterol (LDL).

In addition to these metabolic processes, the body is not able to clear fat from the blood following a high fat

meal.

One may ask, "How does vitamin D3 lower blood pressure?" We don't know all of the mechanisms yet, but we

do know that vitamin D affects the cell membranes and aides in the absorption of calcium. So, the lowering of

blood pressure could be directly related to vitamin D3, or it could be related to better calcium absorption.

The bottom line is that vitamin D3 has positive effects on blood pressure and cholesterol.

The best way to obtain vitamin D is through sunshine. Your body actually produces vitamin D when the skin is

exposed to ultraviolet rays. Safe sunshine time is about ten to fifteen minutes, which isn't much.

A growing body of evidence suggests that higher levels of vitamin D help to reduce colon, breat and prostate

cancer, helping women fight fat in menopausal years, and assisting to help prevent type II diabetes when

combined with calcium. In terms of nutrition report card, vitamin D gets an A.

Current recommended daily allowances (as set by the government) are about 200 international units, or I.U.,

yet a recent review in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition concluded that the upper limits

should be increased to 10,000 I.U. per day.

of General Clinical Research at Boston University Medical Center.

Antioxidants and Free Radicals

Free radicals are atoms or groups of atoms with an odd (unpaired) number of electrons and can be formed

when oxygen interacts with certain molecules.

Once formed, these highly reactive radicals can start a chain reaction, like dominoes. The chief danger

comes from the damage they can do when they react with important cellular components such as DNA,

or the cell membrane. Cells may function poorly or die if this occurs. To prevent free radical damage, the

body has a defensive system of antioxidants.

Antioxidants are molecules which can safely interact with free radicals and terminate the chain reaction

before vital molecules are damaged.

Although there are several enzyme systems within the body that scavenge free radicals, the principle ones

are micronutrients (vitamins) and antioxidants.

Scrub Your Arteries CLEAN!

Research studies prove it: plaque build-up is a problem!

But according to two-time Nobel prize-winning scientist Dr. Linus Pauling, published research and extensive

clinical experience proves the amazing amino acid called EDTA may help flush out dangerous plaque-

and significantly help improve blood flow to your heart and other organs!

EDTA -- the main ingredient in chelation therapy -- claws out plaque and helps flush toxins out of your body.

This remarkable amino acid can help remove toxic levels of lead and other heavy metals from your body.

Fulvic Mineral

Helps with metabolism of carbohydrates -- Intensifies metabolism of proteins -- Stimulates the IMMUNE SYSTEM

Increases assimilation and utilization of nutrients -- Energizes -- Detoxifies pollutants -- Increases enzyme activity

Balances hormones -- Changes the cells

Omega-3

Scientific studies have shown that consumption of Perilla Oil, in most cases, can reduce cardiovascular problems.

The alternative is the risk of higher lipid levels in the blood and coronary heart disease.

Grape Seed Extract: Wonder Antioxidant

If only there were something that could stem the onset of degenerative disease, help to maintain youth, and

significantly increase healthy life span! In fact, there is! OPC is that agent of health, a powerful antioxidant found

in grape seed, delivering more benefits than almost any other substance known.

Vitamin B Complex

They consist of eight water-soluble vitamins. The B vitamins work together to boost metabolism, enhance the

immune and nervous systems, keep the skin and muscles healthy, encourage cell growth and division, and provide

other benefits for your body.

So, the lesson to be learned from this beneficial information is to keep an eye out for these ingredients. When you find them in a product, you can expect amazing results!

The Pharmaceutical Companies

You say you're not worried about cardiovascular disease because you are taking one of the new drugs

you saw on TV. Your doctor must use what the FDA has approved.

The FDA says it's OK because it has been tested for years, double blind at that. Do the tests always identify

the side effect problems with new drugs? What have you heard in the news lately?

Do the big pharmaceutical companies have your best interests at heart? Or are they more interested in

developing a chemical that can be patented, allowing them to make huge profits for years? They have

made billions off of Lipitor alone.

The drug companies have the most powerful lobbyist in Washington.

When the new Medicare drug bill was being written, the drug lobbyist had it written to explicitly forbid

Medicare from using its purchasing powers to negotiate prices with drug companies.

There is no better illustration of the fact that Congress is so beholden to the pharmaceutical industry

that it will do its bidding at nearly any price.
